Mamma Mia, Octuplets Mom Got $168G In Disability!

Apparently, eight is not enough for Octuplet Mom, Nadya Suleman who has six other children at home. That's a lot of mouths to feed. How does she manage? Nadya Suleman collected almost $168,000 in state disability payments for an on-the-job back injury that she and a doctor said was worsened by pregnancy, according to state documents released Thursday.

The 33 year old mother became pregnant with all 14 of her children after a 1999 injury during a riot at a state mental hospital where she worked, state Division of Workers' Compensation documents show. Mondo just thinks that's crazy!

Racoons Overrun White House

The White House was invaded this morning by unwelcomed guests: a group of raccoons that evaded capture by the National Park Service. "The idea of raccoons on the White House grounds give us great pause," spokesman Bill Burton said. The Washington Post reports that "one very large raccoon and several medium-sized raccoons" were seen on the grounds and have managed to avoid the "live traps" (with apples, cat food and peanut butter) set up to nab the animals.

Mondo thinks the White House ought to give these raccoons a credit card and let them stay at a Quality Inn hotel with broadband satellite internet phone and pool. After all, I'm sure the raccoons were just in town for the inauguration and needed a place to crash.

In fact, I witnessed several such serious Bud drinkers switch brands during the Super Bowl party I was at because they didn't want to be associated with such a lame advertising campaign - when asked what beer they were drinking the response was "Anything but Budweiser."

The Bible says that you should turn the other cheek when struck, but then God never had to direct a huge action blockbuster like the Watchmen based on a limited series of 12 comic book. No, that thankless task fell to the immensely talented director, Zack Snyder most recently of 300 film fame.

Given the recent fan boy fervor at Comic Con over the Watchmen project you might be inclined to believe that Snyder, while no deity, is a strong candidate at least for sainthood. Once again, Snyder delivers a film filled with arresting visual imagery, stellar performances and nonstop action as these outcast superheroes who refuse to turn the other check and instead band together to delivery their own brand of justice. Watchmen does not disappoint. Opening soon nationwide.

Hollywood Recycles The Uninvited

Yogi Berra summed it up nicely when he said, "It's deja vu all over again," and I must confess that this is exactly how I feel as the Hollywood studio machine recycles another Asian horror classic to give us this flavor of the week: "The Uninvited."

A girl returns from the nuthouse to find Daddy's hooked up with dead Mommy's Nurse, and guess what sport's fans, Nursie may have had something to do with Mommy's death.

Hmmm.... I'm not making this stuff up - I'm not that good of a writer - that's why I'm stuck in blog hell.

Should you go see "The Uninvited"? Depends on if you like horror, then yes. Depends on if you've not seen out all the Oscar nominated films, then no. What if you really have no preference? Then go bowling, it'll do you good.

Ah, the Superbowl, what a classic. Right now my neighbor is having the largest flat screen TV I've ever seen in my life delivered for his huge Superbowl Blowout Party. It's amazing the things people do to have a good time to watch this event. For Mondo, it's not the game itself, it's the commercials baby! I've previously posted that the Apple's "1984" spot is the best commercial ever. Who is Alan Rosenberg? And what has he done to warrant "Public Enemy #1" status?

Accoriding to Wikipedia "Alan Rosenberg is an American actor of both stage and screen, and current president of the Screen Actors Guild, the principal motion picture industry on-screen performers' union."

Okay, so Rosenberg is the SAG president. So what has he done to merit the "Public Enemy #1" status? Answer: nothing.

For the last 7 months, the members of the Screen Actors Guild have been working without a contract because Rosenberg and his sidekick, negotiator Doug Allen, felt it was better to do "nothing" rather than submit a contract offer from the motion picture studios that they felt was not worthy of the membership. Hmm.

So what was Rosenberg & Allen's solution to the bad contract offer? Answer: Call for a strike authorization vote during the worst economic crisis since the Great Depression. Talk about thinking outside the box.

Luckily, cooler heads have prevailed on SAG executive board and Doug Allen's been sacked, albeit with a $500,00 golden parachute.

Here's what the New York Times take on it:

Mr. Allen’s dismissal will not do much to squelch the internal rancor at S.A.G. Left behind are staunch supporters, including Alan Rosenberg, the guild’s president. In an interview on Tuesday, Mr. Rosenberg said he had no plans to resign or even back down, despite being weakened. (The S.A.G. board went so far on Monday as to strip Mr. Rosenberg of his authority to speak to the press on behalf of the guild.)

“Doug Allen is one of the best things that ever happened to this guild, and he was beloved by staff and became a personal friend to me,” Mr. Rosenberg said, making it clear he was speaking for himself only. “This despicable, underhanded action to remove him will result in us throwing ourselves at the mercy of studios. I am angry.”

So what has been the effect of 7 months of SAG doing nothing? Answer: A whole lot fewer television and feature film productions in Los Angeles and around the country. Why?

"Seems like studios, networks don't want to gamble on an expensive production on new projects for TV or film with the prospect of an actor's strike looming," according to one former Paramount Studio development executive who recently saw her own position made redundant after a round of budget cuts.

Meanwhile, the impact of the actors lack of a contract, is already being felt by tens of thousand of Hollywood film crews who are finding work scarce or nonexistent. "It reminds me of the writer's strike last year, no work, except in this case the actors aren't holding picket signs but they might as well be," said an out of work Teamster driver. "Hollywood is dead right now. Nothing really is happening with production. The actors need to get their act together. If they don't, the Hollywood workforce is screwed."

Rosenberg term as SAG president expires in another 7 months. Can Hollywood and its families afford another 7 months of "nothing?"

Greatest Superbowl Ad: 1984 Apple's Macintosh

Hey, the Superbowl is in a few days and most people I know watch the game for the commercials because not counting last years come from behind victory for the Giants over New England the Superbowl has been super boring.

Now, there's many different opinions out there about what was the greatest ad ever, MSNBC thinks it's Coke's "Mean Joe Green" spot but for my money there can be only one choice: Apple Computer's Macintosh 1984 iconic spot which was broadcast only one time at a cost of $1 million dollars. I've never seen anything like it since. The Ridley Scott directed spot catapulted Apple Computer into the limelight where it's been for the last 25 years. You could say that this was the day the Mac revolution began.

My prediction is the Arizona Cardinals will beat Pittsburgh Steelers at this year's Superbowl.

This message sent my mind whirling like a dervish. Replicas of what? And why the need for secrecy? Decided to jump on Facebook band wagon after much nagging from a certain person who shall remain nameless and guess what, Mondo has zero friends of Facebook! Zip! Nada! No takers! Makes me want to run, not walk to my nearest psychiatric facility for some self esteem therapy. I'm the new kid on Facebook and nobody likes me. Hmmm. For a social network, I'm not feeling the love right now, but then again, do I really need Facebook to validate me? The sad truth is yes. The naked truth is, I guess I was blinded by her natural beauty, smokey accent and stylish camera work. Still, I stand by my prediction, even more so given this latest bold revelation, that the LA Sneaker Girl is gonna be a huge voice in the You Tube community.

In her latest video, the LA Sneaker Girl shows off her comic banter between herself and a controlling, off-screen boyfriend, Iain, who manages to derail her video performance after insensitively calling her “Naked blogger girl.” Why do all the hot girls date jerks?

Personally, I think the LA Sneaker Girl and I have a lot more in common. We’re both making interesting videos, although some would say mine are sexier, and we both share an affiliation with Sportie LA, you know those cool cats on Melrose with their fingers on the trigger of fashionable footwear. As for the LA Sneaker Girl, she reminds of that classic Billy Idol song “Rebel Yell”:

Bank on Slumdog Millionaire

I just came back from a screening over at Fox Studios of Slumdog Millionaire which is nominated for 10 Oscars including "Best Picture." I must tell you that Slumdog does not disappoint. I predict it will win the "Best Picture" category as well as "Best Director" for Danny Boyle.

What's it about? It's a feel good movie. I repeat, a feel good movie which manages to take your mind off the current economic tsunami for 2 hours.

Slumdog is the classic underdog tale, wrapped around a lovestory, boy meets girl, you get the drift. Think the least likely person to appear on "Who Wants To Be A Millionaire", sounds like my story but it is actually set in India, about a poor boy of humble origins, the slums, who manages answer tough questions despite being illiterate. How does he do it? Go to the movie now and find out!

Seriously, get your butt in gear and go see Slumdog. You won't regret it.

LA Sneaker Girl

I have a feeling that a new emerging personality over YouTube who calls herself, "LA Sneaker Girl Kamila Kalish," is a little of both with her comely good looks and seductive eastern European accent. Hey, LA is a melting pot after all - not everyone here is blond, blue-eyed and beautiful - it just seems that way!

Personally, I like the visual poetry of her videos, her carefree attitude, and willingness to reveal herself before the camera. Culture clash with a twist.

I just wish I knew what brand of sneakers she was wearing in her 2nd video? Any thoughts? LA Gear, perhaps? I wonder what our Sneaker Girl will do next?

PHOENIX, ARIZONA — Horrified by recent campus shootings, a state lawmaker here has come up with a proposal in keeping with the Taurus .22-caliber pistol tucked in her purse: Get more guns on campus.

The lawmaker, State Senator Karen S. Johnson, has sponsored a bill, which the Senate Judiciary Committee approved last week, that would allow people with a concealed weapons permit — limited to those 21 and older here — to carry their firearms at public colleges and universities. Concealed weapons are generally not permitted at most public establishments, including colleges.

Ms. Johnson, a Republican from Mesa, said she believed that the recent carnage at Northern Illinois University could have been prevented or limited if an armed student or professor had intercepted the gunman. The police, she said, respond too slowly to such incidents and, besides, who better than the people staring down the barrel to take action?

She initially wanted her bill to cover all public schools, kindergarten and up, but other lawmakers convinced her it stood a better chance of passing if it were limited to higher education.

“I feel like our kindergartners are sitting there like sitting ducks,” Ms. Johnson said last week when the bill passed the committee by a 4-to-3 vote.

This is a generally gun-friendly state, where people are allowed to carry a weapon on their hip without a permit as long as people can see it. Even so, Ms. Johnson acknowledges that her views come from the far right — she recently described herself, half-jokingly, she says, as a “right-wing wacko.”

Dusting, vacuuming and even taking out the rubbish are the best ways to rekindle the marital flame, according to a US study of family life.

“Equitable sharing of housework is associated with higher levels of marital satisfaction – and sometimes more sex too,” said Joshua Coleman, a psychologist and a senior Fellow at the Council on Contemporary Families, which commissioned the report. “Wives report greater feelings of sexual interest and affection for husbands who participate in housework.”

Golfer Makes A Birdie

Pro golfer Tripp Isenhour apologized for killing a hawk that was making noise while he tried to film a TV show. Now the Humane Society wants the PGA Tour to take action.

The 39-year-old player, whose real name is John Henry Isenhour III, became angry while filming “Shoot Like A Pro” on Dec. 12 at the Grand Cypress Golf Club when a squawking red-shouldered hawk roughly 300 yards away forced another take.

He drove closer to the bird in his golf cart and starting hitting balls at it. The bird didn’t move and Isenhour gave up and drove away.

Isenhour started again when the hawk moved within about 75 yards, Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission officer Brian Baine indicated in a report.

Isenhour allegedly said, “I’ll get him now,” and aimed for the hawk.

“About the sixth ball came very near the bird’s head, and (Isenhour) was very excited that it was so close,” Baine wrote.

A few shots later, witnesses said he hit the hawk. The bird, protected as a migratory species, fell to the ground bleeding from both nostrils.

Perhaps we, the tv viewer, would have been better off if they had cancelled the Academy Awards as rumored during the writer's strike instead of what can be described as "underwhelming" at best?

Why does the show suck?

The best songs are lame and rarely translate to anything worth watching. Drop it from the show and shave at least a half hour off the broadcast.

Get rid of the technical awards and crafts. Who really cares about makeup and hair, costume design, art design, sound editing, film editing? After all, these are below the line categories and the Oscars is truly about the above the line: Actors, Writers, Directors and Producers. Lump these below the line awards with the special technical geek awards that are held separately.

Give the documentary and short film categories the boot.

How about nominating some blockbuster films that actually make money for a change like Transformers, Harry Potter instead of this art house crap that gets put on the discount rack at Blockbuster?

How about a best action movie category or better still, best comedy?

Finally, the show writing is not funny. There were 30 credited writers on the Oscar show but you would have never known it. Host John Stewart was flying solo and dropping bombs left and right. Mondo thinks next year let's have the show without the writers so we can see if there's any difference.

A very disturbing undercover video of cows on their last legs at Westland/Hallmark Meat Company has finally caused a stir: the largest recall of meat in USA history:143 million pounds of beef.

Where's the beef? Most likely in resting our bellies, already been eaten. Talk about the perfect crime. Additional records show that 37 million pounds of beef was sent to school-lunch programs. Kids, it is time to start brown bagging it or have Papa John's Pizza on speed dial.

Mondo thinks it is time for the American public to demand a national food safety program for all meats, fruits and vegetables before there's another incident. Meanwhile, the public won't have to worry about meatpacker Westland/Hallmark compliing with the program, as they have decided to close down.

Mondo checked out the Obama/Clinton debate last night and was left with the conclusion that both candidates are equally qualified for office and therefore the debate was a tie.

As far as Mondo's concerned, the tie breaker is the candidate's campaign finances. After all, running the country involves managing a budget trillions of dollars so what better indicator of a candidate's ability to lead the nation than the way they handle their $100 million plus budgets because eventually one of them as President will be spending your hard earned tax dollars.

The New York Times is reporting today that "Clinton Donors Worried by Campaign’s Spending." According to the article "Nearly $100,000 went for party platters and groceries before the Iowa caucuses, even though the partying mood evaporated quickly. Rooms at the Bellagio luxury hotel in Las Vegas consumed more than $25,000; the Four Seasons, another $5,000. And top consultants collected about $5 million in January, a month of crucial expenses and tough fund-raising...As part of their get-out-the-vote effort in Iowa, the campaign came up with a plan to have a local supermarket deliver sandwich platters to pre-caucus parties. It spent more than $95,384 on Jan. 1 at Hy-Vee Inc., a local grocery chain in West Des Moines, Iowa, in addition to buying loads of snow shovels to clear the walks for caucusgoers. Mrs. Clinton came in third in the Jan. 3 caucus. It did not snow...Clinton paid $275,000 to Sunrise Communications, a South Carolina firm that was supposed to turn out black voters for her and collected nearly $800,000 in total. She lost...In January: the campaign spent more than $11,000 on pizza and $1,200 on Dunkin’ Donuts runs."

Guitar Hero Eric Clapton's autobiography is a muddled affair of self-doubt, self-destruction and self-loathing - all of which means that we can expect Hollywood suits to be creaming all over themselves to make this opus into another rock-star bio pic. Paging Marty Scorsese.

Clapton, who seems to have be blessed with Rasputiin's indestructible constitution, survives drugs, alcohol and a suicide attempt while his rock peers drop like flies. During the Sixites, Clapton who was a member of the supergroups, Yardbirds, Cream, Blind Faith and Dereck and the Dominos, and yet in each instance he grew tired of the band's music. The irony is that he is best known for the music from this period. Subsequently, Clapton's later work seems to be channeling the ghost of blues legend Robert Johnson.

Mondo says save yourself the eyestrain and wait for the movie unless you're in dire need of a survivor's guide to rock-n-roll.

Fidel Castro stunned the world by quitting the presidency of Cuba after learning that 49 years of service to the communist regime still did not entitle him to a retirement gold watch, "I know we are a poor communist island country but this is rediculous!" exclaimed Castro.

A government spokesman at the Office of Retired Workers said that after 10 years of unsuccessful bidding on Ebay for a gold watch, the Office had no choice but to break the news to El Presidente who promptly told them to take their watch and shove it.

Apple unveiled Boot Camp, public beta software that enables Intel-based Macs to run Windows XP.

I wanted to share this news with you because my mac mini has transformed my life. It's a sweet machine and just in case you are hesitant about switching to a Mac because of your investment in Windows applications you may now reconsider. With Boot Camp, you can install Windows XP and your existing Windows applications on any Intel-based Mac. This great news for me because as I've said before, the MondoMouth show runs two flavors of computers: Mac and PC. Now, I'll be able to have both flavors on one machine: my Mac Mini.
